OpenReports 3.0 is now available!

December 3rd, 2007

OpenReports 3.0 is a major upgrade that includes a number of frequently requested features including support for JasperReports 2.0.2 and Eclipse BIRT 2.2 and OLAP support via Mondrian and JPivot.

In addition, OpenReports has migrated from WebWork 2 and Velocity to Struts 2, Spring, and JSP. This new architecture fixes a number of deployment issues and offers full support for internationalization of the user interface.

Other changes include an updated user interface that uses the Yahoo User Interface Library and features a new color scheme and date picker component.

A new release of OpenReports Professional is also available. In addition to all the new features in the open source release, OpenReports Professional 3.0 includes the ability to import and export report definitions from the OpenReports Administration Console.

    1) Congrats on the new version, I personally had been eagerly looking forward to it.

    2) Despite multiple questions about a possible release date earlier, this blog and the website did not announce the release plan or date of the product ahead of time. Personally, this has forced me to look elsewhere for a reporting solution. While it doesn’t matter much in the open source community, a roadmap for product development helps retain customers. Please take care for the next release. I have invested too much effort in Jasper Server (building, deploying, testing, training the user) to migrate back to Open Reports for now. I will certainly try out OpenReports for the next project. (for the record, the customer gets the commercial version of JasperServer, I use the free version for development. Same plan with Openreports)

    Regards,
    Mukund

How do I add an OLAP report? I understand there is a schema and an MDX query for this. I tried adding the schema as a report template and the MDX under the query but it wouldn’t work. Great work on Openreports!
